Mental disability

If there is a persistent, clearly above-average restriction of the cognitive abilities, one speaks of an intellectual disability. Cognitive abilities include perception, attention, thinking and learning, as well as memory, motivation and concentration. Mental disabilities such as Downs syndrome are among the most common types of impairment after physical disabilities. In this group are people with diagnoses such as trisomy 21, autism spectrum, fragile x syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome. For each of these impairments, the range of expressions is very wide.
