Our project "Ukraine: Into Society Through Sport" is an initiative focused on integrating traumatized individuals into society through amputee football and e-sports. The participants include children, youth, and former soldiers who have been affected by the ravages of war and are seeking new perspectives for an active and self-determined life. Integration through sport not only boosts their self-confidence but also fosters a strong sense of community and helps to overcome physical and emotional barriers.
From May to August 2024, participants experienced intensive training sessions, tactical instruction, and competitions, led by international coaches and experts from our partner organizations, such as the FC Chelsea Foundation and Everton in the Community. A special highlight was the players’ participation in the Helvetia Cup in St. Gallen, where they competed with other amputee football teams from around the world and formed valuable social connections.
The project was accompanied by our videographer Adrian Ehrat, who documented our work and provided deeper insights into the participants' experiences and progress. Interviews with players and coaches show how much the project has helped people reintegrate into society through sport and find new joy in life.
Watch the documentary this coming Sunday at 4:30 PM on the free-to-air channel Blue Zoom to experience firsthand how "Ukraine: Into Society Through Sport" promotes hope, community, and inclusion.
