Training Teachers, Coaches and Support Staff from Ukraine

FOOTBALL IS MORE trains teachers, coaches and support staff from Ukraine in Switzerland, in order to promote inclusion, equal opportunities and the protection of Ukrainian children, regardless of social background or disability.

Together with Don Bosco Jugendhilfe Weltweit, a programme has taken shape that combines education, social-pedagogical measures and psychotherapeutic interventions for trauma recovery with play, sport and movement. The participants from Ukraine learn how to work with children under strain and how to recognise post-traumatic stress disorders, and are trained accordingly.

Through theoretical instruction and hands-on experience in the fields of inclusion and diversity, the teachers, coaches and support staff broaden their professional and social skills. The aim is to support the psychosocial development of Ukrainian children as a whole, with a trauma-sensitive approach.

Inclusive sports communities are also emerging: the children attend both a mainstream school and a special school for children with additional support needs. The psychosocial workshops strengthen access to inclusive education, personal development and the children's resilience, combined with play, sport and movement modules in which social participation and inclusion are at the centre.

By bringing education and football together, what emerges is not only short-term support, but long-term prospects for inclusion, confidence and full participation.
