Creation and development of disability teams
Active inclusion in amateur and professional clubs
One of the great advantages of football lies in the fact that it is a team sport. It, therefore, lends itself perfectly to bringing together people with different backgrounds and needs.
We at FIM support clubs and organisations (our partners and the FIM-family members) in building and developing disability football teams. The goal is for the team to transition into an independent practice and training operation. It should also participate in various sporting events. The development of the team requires the setting up of a team with officials in the club, the tendering process, the selection of team members and the establishment of a training operation with specially trained coaches. A prime example of this in Switzerland is FC Lugano’s Disability Football Team: It is a football team for people of 16 and over with disabilities, which trains regularly and participates in integrated, mixed and inclusive football activities.
Beneficiaries
Children and young people with disabilities should be given access to football. In this way, they can playfully increase their self-confidence, expand their social skills, naturally take part in club life and competitions and preventively promote their health through exercise. At the same time, other club members are to be made aware of how things work together naturally - in sport and in their free time
